Beginner Dance Camp

A special camp for children ages 7 and up who have little or no training in ballet and other dance forms taught by WDA’s very popular teacher, Ellie Goudie-Averill. 

 

Course Summary:            In two action packed weeks of camp we will learn the basics of Ballet, Jazz, and Modern in a fun and creative atmosphere, focusing on basic positions and movements and allowing for creativity.  Each day will include a Yoga warm-up, dance phrases in three styles, improvisational exercises and a break for snack during which we will learn about some of the greatest dancers and dances of all time.  At the end of camp we will perform our new talents for family and friends.

 

Dates – July 9 – 20, 2012

Time - 9 AM to 12PM

Dance Attire – girls - black leotard, pink tights, pink ballet shoes

                   Boys – white tshirt, black tights or shorts, black or white ballet shoes

 

Fees - $180 per week or $350 for two weeks

 

 

 

The course will be taught by Ellie Goudie-Averill 

Eleanor Goudie-Averill, a 2007 MFA Dance Performance graduate of the University of Iowa, currently dances for Group Motion Dance Company and directs the Stone Depot Dance Lab.  She has served as Visiting Assistant Professor of Ballet at Bucknell University and Artistic Coordinator of the UI Youth Ballet.  She began her training at Ballet Midwest in Topeka, Kansas and holds a BFA in dance from the University of Kansas.  Ellie has performed with Daara Dance, Kayle+Co, Cohan/Suzeau, Prairie Wind Dancers, and was a founding member of the Bowery Dancers.  Along with performing and choreographing, she loves teaching dance to people of all ages and jumping for joy.
